MINICO AND OPENTECH ALLIANCE PURSUE ASIAN MARKETS WITH JOINT VENTURE
PHOENIX, ARIZ. – Marilyn Leslie, President, MiniCo Asia, Ltd., has announced the launch of a joint venture with another Phoenix-based company, OpenTech Alliance, Inc. The new company, OpenTech Asia, Ltd., combines MiniCo’s over 34 years of self storage industry experience with OpenTech’s innovation to create a company focused on delivering self‑storage technology and products to Asian markets.
Robert Chiti, Director of OpenTech Asia, Ltd., and President and CEO of OpenTech Alliance, Inc., views joining forces with MiniCo as a natural progression for his company. “OpenTech has several years of experience introducing self storage automation technology to self storage businesses in the U.S. and Canada,” he commented. Mr. Chiti continued, “In Asia, consumers are already comfortable using this kind of technology, so it seems like the logical next step to expand into those markets.”
The partnership also has benefits for MiniCo Asia, Ltd., according to Ms. Leslie. “MiniCo has an established presence in Hong Kong through the MiniCo Self Storage chain of self storage facilities,” she said. She added, “Adding self service technology to our existing facilities makes sense from both the customers’ and the company’s perspective.”
OpenTech Asia, Ltd., has sold two INSOMNIAC™ kiosks to MiniCo Self Storage. One is in operation at the company’s Chai Wan location with the second to be operational in a few weeks. The self-service kiosk allows customers access outside of normal office hours. Using the kiosk, customers may rent a self storage space, make a rental payment, purchase a lock, check their balance, and purchase tenant insurance.
MiniCo Self Storage has operated in Hong Kong since June 2002 and currently operates three facilities. MiniCo Asia, Ltd., is a Hong Kong corporation, and Phoenix-based MiniCo, Inc. is the majority shareholder.
