Planning Ahead For Hurricane Season

Preparing Your Property for Hail StormsSince the record-shattering Atlantic hurricane season of 2005, that region has experienced hurricane activity that has been calmer by comparison. While this is a positive result in many respects, there is a risk that property owners may have become complacent about the possibility of storm-related damage and the impact it could have on business operations. As the respected Colorado State University forecaster Dr. Philip Klotzbach stated in this year's initial extended-range forecast, "As is the case with all hurricane seasons, coastal residents are reminded that it only takes one hurricane making landfall to make it an active season for them. They should prepare the same for every season, regardless of how much activity is predicted."

Special Event InsuranceBy Mikey Minor

Insurance Requirements for Contractors and Tenants

On the Road with MiniCoTenant insurance programs have long been a standard offering at self-storage facilities. But, when it comes to protecting your business, making sure that tenants are insured is just the beginning. If you have contractors working on your property, it is important to require that they provide evidence of insurance, to include liability coverage, at adequate limits. If you permit uninsured or underinsured contractors to do work at your self-storage facility, you potentially are assuming the risk for their personnel's actions that may result in property damage, theft, negligence, injury or other acts. In other words, you could very well end up with a multi-million-dollar insurance claim or lawsuit on your record.
