What company is the carrier for the collectibles program?

MiniCo’s program is offered in partnership with AXA XL, the global leader in specialty art and collectibles insurance. AXA XL has been awarded an AM Best A-rating.

What types of collections does MiniCo cover?
Just about anything that can be collected can be covered including fine art, sports memorabilia, wine, fur, silverware, rare books and manuscripts, rugs and tapestries, musical instruments, stamps, coins, firearms and many others.
Does MiniCo require separate policies for multiple collections?
No. Multiple collections may be covered under a single policy.
How is a collection valued?

The policyholder establishes the value of the collection. No appraisal is required at the time of application (except for jewelry items valued over $25,000). MiniCo’s program provides scheduled and/or unscheduled coverage up to $1,000,000 (higher limits available). Collections are insured for their full collectible value. Typical homeowners policies pay claims at actual cash value, which in most cases would be far less than the collectible value, or there may be a higher premium for replacement-cost coverage.

What are the location and security requirements for coverage eligibility?
Collections that are stored or displayed in the collector’s home, apartment, condominium, or self-storage facility are eligible for coverage.
What types of losses are covered?

MiniCo Collectibles insurance provides an all-risk policy to cover collectible items that are potentially vulnerable to loss. Our policy covers losses caused by:

  • Accidental Breakage
  • Burglary
  • Fire
  • Lightning
  • Loss in Transit
  • Mysterious Disappearance
  • Water Damage

Additional coverages are included for specific collectible classes. Please review your policy for more information on coverages, conditions and exclusions.

How do I file a claim?
Claims are handled directly by our A-rated partner carrier AXA XL. Click here for details.
Is direct billing available?

Direct billing and agency billing are available. Agents may indicate their billing preference when binding coverage in the online agent portal.

When direct billing is selected, the policyholder will receive the policy and an invoice via email, with instructions to pay the premium directly to MiniCo by check or credit card. The agent also will receive copies of these documents, and commission will be remitted upon receipt of premium payment.

Our Claims Handling Philosophy

We believe that every policyholder is entitled to the highest standards of claim resolution. AXA XL claims professionals are recognized leaders in the field of adjusting art and collectibles losses. They work with insureds to resolve claims expeditiously and fairly. In addition to utilizing in-house art expertise, the AXA XL claims department collaborates with leading appraisers and conservators to provide creative solutions to difficult and unusual losses.

Submitting a Claim

The insured should notify their agent of a loss as soon as possible. This will help expedite the claims process and minimize the possibility of further damage to the object. After the agent submits the loss to the AXA XL claims department, an adjuster will contact the insured via telephone to begin gathering all relevant documentation. Once the relevant documents have been received and reviewed, the adjuster will work with the insured to settle the claim on mutually agreeable terms.
