Crafting the Perfect Follow Up

A follow-up is a great time to reconnect with a prospective client and the perfect time to let them know that you are still around. With a follow-up, the most important thing to note is that the smallest gestures can go a long way. If you have an opening to create a follow-up opportunity while meeting with the clients, it is a great way to make this process feel the most organic and natural.

Shortly after your initial meeting, be sure to send a brief note thanking them. Don’t make this gesture about you. Avoiding saying “I want” in any of these interactions. Make it about them, and invite them to contact you if they have any questions. If you don’t have the ability to send out a handwritten message, try to at least follow up with a personalized email.

After this process has been set into motion, be sure to add the potential client to your email marketing list for an early stage drip campaign. If you are not at a stage where your email marketing is automated, create notes to remind you to do frequent follow-ups with the prospective client.

For larger clients or on days when you really want to impress, know that you can do no wrong by sending out sweets or having a courier deliver something special. For your current clients, you shouldn’t leave them completely out of the loop on follow-ups. While you don’t necessarily need to be emailing them once a week, you can surely send them a special note for birthdays and holidays.
