Surviving a Tornado

Do you and your self-storage employees know what to do if a tornado strikes? Here are tips to help survive during a tornado.

Find Safe Shelter

Evacuate employees and customers to the closest safe shelter.

Take Additional Cover

Shield your head and neck with your arms and surround yourself with items such as furniture, blankets, or mattresses.

Listen to Emergency Alerts

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio, as well as local alert systems, will provide important emergency information during a tornado event.

Be Safe Outdoors

Do NOT attempt to outrun a tornado if you are in a vehicle. If you are in a car or outdoors when the tornado strikes, get to a building. If that is not possible, try to get to a low, flat location and cover your head and neck with your arms.

Next week, we will review steps for staying safe after a tornado.
